A Strong Start

Ohio State has a stellar record to open the season, winning 24 in a row. The group looks sharp and the passion is palpable. Players have busted their butts working all summer and fall, so you can trust they are just waiting for the moment to step on to the field to show us what they can do.

Game Day Traditions

For many of us, game day is more than just football. It’s about tradition, family and friends. I remember my first Ohio State game like it was yesterday. My dad picked me up when I was a kid, and the energy in the stadium was electric. We painted our faces, wore grey and scarlet, and cheered until we lost our voices. Those memories are what make being a Buckeye fan so special.

What to Watch For

Keep an eye on our star quarterback, Will Howard, who’s been making waves in practice. The defense also looks solid, with some new talent poised to make their mark. And of course, the atmosphere in the Horseshoe will be unbeatable. Whether you’re in the stands or watching from your living room, you’ll feel the energy.

Which Team Should Win Each Phase

– Offense: Ohio State should dominate this phase. The Buckeyes, with an incredibly skilled signal-caller and a powerful receiving group, are expected to score fairly well against the Akron defense.

– Defense: Ohio State’s defense appears to be in good form this season. A combination of veterans and hopefuls could lead them to successfully handle Akron’s attacking force.

– Special Teams: Ohio State’s special teams unit is well-coached and disciplined. They should have an edge in this phase, especially with their reliable kicking game and strong return units.

Key Players to Watch

– Ohio State Buckeyes:
Will Howard (QB): The new starting quarterback is expected to lead the offense with precision and power.
Jeremiah Smith (WR): A dynamic receiver who can make big plays and stretch the field.
Sonny Styles (LB): A key player on defense, known for his tackling and leadership.

– Akron Zips:
– Ben Finley (QB): The champion MAC East Offensive Player of the Week, he can execute plays using either his arm or his feet.

Both teams have displayed formidable prowess en route to this epic encounter. Ohio State’s lone moment of trepidation came in their road faceoff against Notre Dame, where a last-second touchdown was the beacon of salvation in South Bend. In all other contests, the Buckeyes have dominated, boasting an average margin of victory of 31 points per game. Penn State is currently 6-0 and ranked No. 7 in the AP poll.

History of Penn State vs Top 5 Teams

Penn State, on the other hand, carries the weight of an eight-game losing streak against top-5 adversaries since their triumphant upset of No. 2 Ohio State back in 2016. It was Penn State’s first win over a top-5 team since 1999 and their first win over a ranked team under coach James Franklin. It was also the game that sparked Penn State’s run to the Big Ten title that year.

Lebron 4 Graffiti Cleat

In an extraordinary display of support, basketball icon LeBron James has bestowed custom cleats upon the Ohio State football squad ahead of this monumental Big Ten showdown against Penn State. This gesture, a testament to the unifying power of sports, is sure to inspire the Buckeyes as they step onto the gridiron. The Lebron 4 Graffiti Cleat is a special edition of the Nike Lebron 4 basketball shoe that was made for the Ohio State Buckeyes football team. It features a white Foamposite upper with black accents and red details, as well as graffiti elements that celebrate Ohio and the Buckeyes.

Week 8 of college football promises an abundance of thrills and, perhaps, one pivotal play or drive that could define the outcome. The Buckeyes fervently hope they’re the architects of that game-changing moment, while a legion of Penn State defenders is equally determined to ensure that fate has a different script in mind.

Big Recruiting Weekend

A watchful audience of future gridiron stars will grace the Ohio State sidelines, eagerly absorbing the intensity and grandeur of this Penn State clash. The impact of this game transcends the field; it’s a stage where legends are born and legacies are cemented.

Buckeyes Look to Bounce Back in Showdown Against Youngstown State

As the scarlet and gray faithful held their breath during Ohio State’s season opener against Indiana, it was evident that some fine-tuning was needed. The Buckeyes, adorned with the No. 5 ranking, emerged from the bout with a victory, but the offensive engine had yet to hit its stride. A fumble here, a missed opportunity there — it all added up to a performance that left many wanting more.

Quarterback Kyle McCord

Enter Kyle McCord, the fresh face under center, tasked with navigating the uncharted waters of a new season. Against Indiana, the offense sputtered, stalling at times, leaving fans yearning for the explosive displays that have become synonymous with Ohio State football.

This Saturday, under the watchful gaze of the Buckeye faithful and a nationwide audience, McCord and the rest of the squad have a golden opportunity to hit the reset button. Youngstown State stands as the next challenge on this journey, a formidable but conquerable foe. The Big Ten Network will carry the clash, yet the hallowed seats of the Ohio Stadium still beckon, inviting those with a passion for pigskin to witness the spectacle in person.

Devin Brown

A whisper has swept through the Buckeye Nation, hinting at a two-quarterback strategy. Devin Brown, a name poised to enter the fray behind McCord, adds an intriguing dynamic to the mix. Should the tides of fortune turn favorably for Ohio State against their Football Championship Subdivision opponent — and with a point spread that suggests dominance — could this be a tantalizing glimpse into the future of the quarterback room?

Buckeye Defense

While the offense strives to find its rhythm, the defense has stood tall. Against Indiana, they were nothing short of spectacular, showcasing speed, aggression, and an unwavering resolve. Not a single substantial play conceded, a testament to the relentless pursuit of excellence that defines Ohio State football. Granted, the Hoosiers may not stand as the most formidable offensive force the Buckeyes will face this season, but make no mistake, this was a statement performance.

Youngstown State

As the stage is set for Saturday’s home opener, the odds are heavily in favor of Ohio State. The FCS opponent, Youngstown State, steps into the lion’s den, facing a team that has rarely crossed paths with teams from their division. Only three times since the Division I split in 1978 have the Buckeyes faced FCS opposition, with Youngstown State appearing twice in 2007 and 2008, and Florida A&M in 2013. In those encounters, Ohio State exhibited nothing short of dominance, outscoring their counterparts a staggering 157-6.

In this clash, the echoes of history will resonate through the hallowed halls of Ohio Stadium. The fervor of the Buckeye faithful, the legacy of legends past, and the promise of a new era converge on this sacred turf. For McCord, for Coach Ryan Day, for each player who dons the scarlet and gray, this game is more than a contest; it’s a chance to etch their names into the annals of Buckeye lore.

As the sun sets over Columbus, a new chapter in Ohio State football will be written. The script is yet unwritten, but the stage is set, the players poised, and the legacy awaits.

Ohio State Football Back in Action against Michigan State Saturday at Noon

OhioStatevMichiganState

The 4-0 Ohio State Buckeyes are set to return to action this weekend against the Spartans of Michigan State (2-3). Kickoff time is noon with limited attendance in East Lansing Michigan. The game can be watched on ABC. Ohio State had to cancel their game last weekend against Illinois while their head coach Ryan Day will also miss this game after testing positive for Covid-19.

2020 College Football Playoffs

Ohio State is still hopeful of making the College Football Playoffs this season but need a little help from Michigan in playing them next week after they also are having Covid-19 tests spoil some of their season. If Ohio State can play their final two regular season games against Michigan State and Michigan, win them both, they will be eligible for the Big Ten Championship game the following week. But if one game is cancelled, the Buckeyes will not have met the 6 game requirement to play.

Michigan State Football

Michigan State had their best game so far last weekend beating Northwestern 29-20.

The Spartans have an outstanding linebacker coming after Justin Fields in Antjuan Simmons (Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week) who is 2nd in the conference with 10.6 tackles a game. The team is prone to get sacks and turn-overs, similar to Indiana. They got 4 sacks and 4 interceptions against the Wildcats last week. Mel Tucker returns to the Big Ten after coaching Colorado one year to lead Michigan State.

Michigan State’s main problem is at quarterback where Rocky Lombardi throws as many interceptions as touchdowns. He also is not able to complete many passes, just 11 for 27 last week. He does make up for the poor passing with his ability to run the ball, putting up 65 yards in the most recent win.

Why Ohio State Wins

Ohio State is a 24 point favorite in this game. Last time out, against Indiana, quarterback Justin Fields put up great numbers when discounting the 3 interceptions, with 378 yards and three touchdowns. Fields is leading the nation in passing percentage at 79.6%. Running Back Master Teague had one of his best games with 169 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Their receiving core is still looking very strong with sophomore Garrett Wilson having one of his best games at OSU two weeks ago. Chris Olave also had 100+ yards receiving against the Hoosiers.

Ohio State’s defensive will have some trouble with the pass as we have seen so far this year but Lombardi is not Michael Penix Jr. And shutting down the run is something they are able to do week after week. I cannot see the Spartans being able to do much on offense and the couple of turnovers the Buckeyes make won’t be enough to get MSU past 14 points.

rams

Ohio State finished their season with 23 wins including 11 in the Big Ten conference, earning them a 10 seed in the NCAA tournament West Region.
