Jarquez Carter, 2025 4-Star DL, Commits to Ohio State

Big news for the Ohio State Buckeyes! They just landed another awesome defensive lineman for their 2025 class. Jarquez Carter, a super talented player from Florida, decided to join the Buckeyes today. This is a bit of a surprise, as Miami, UCF, and Penn State were also after him. Looks like Ohio State is on a roll!

Jarquez Carter

The Legend of Larry Johnson

Carter’s decision was heavily influenced by legendary defensive line coach Larry Johnson. Johnson’s reputation as a master developer of NFL-caliber talent has drawn top recruits to Columbus for years. Carter himself cited Johnson as the main reason behind his choice, saying, “He’s a legend.”

A Youth Movement on the D-Line

At 6-foot-2 and 284 pounds, Carter brings power and agility to the interior of Ohio State’s defensive line. He joins fellow tackles Trajen Odom and Maxwell Roy in what promises to be a formidable unit. With the departure of all four starters after the 2024 season, including standouts like Jack Sawyer and J.T. Tuimoloau, Johnson needs fresh bodies to step up.

A Personal Connection

So how’d Ohio State land another top recruit? It all started with a visit in June. Jarquez Carter, a super talented defensive lineman from Florida, went to Ohio State for a few days (from the 19th to the 21st of June, to be exact). During that visit, he hung out with the players, got to feel the electric atmosphere of the Horseshoe stadium, and totally pictured himself rocking the scarlet and gray. It was a lightbulb moment for him – he knew he wanted to be part of something special at Ohio State.

Looking Ahead

With the Buckeyes getting ready to crush it next season (2025!), Carter joining the team is a super win for their defense. He’s gonna add some serious muscle and potential to that line. Carter’s story is all about hard work, dedication, and taking a chance on something he believes in. And for Ohio State fans? This is a reason to party! It’s a new chapter in the Buckeyes’ legendary football story!

Remember, the journey from high school standout to college star is never easy. But for Jarquez Carter, the path to greatness now runs through the Horseshoe.

A Dream Realized

This isn’t just about football for Brody. This is a dream come true! Growing up in Ohio, he’s been a die-hard Buckeyes fan forever. His dad, who went to Ohio State too, totally passed on that love for the team. So, when Coach Bailey offered him a spot, it felt like it was meant to be. “It felt amazing,” Lennon shared. “I always grew up an OSU fan, and my dad went there. Coach Bailey believed in me, and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to wear the Block O”.

He joins four-star Oklahoma prospect Nate Roberts, and together, they aim to redefine the role of tight ends in the Buckeyes’ offense. Roberts and Lennon bonded during their official visit to Columbus, and their camaraderie could spell trouble for opposing defenses.

Small Guard Luther Muhammad Commits to Ohio State

LutherMuhammad

2018 New Jersey small guard Luther Muhammad committed to the Ohio State basketball team and Chris Holtmann last week. He was one of four recruits to commit to the Buckeyes during the week that took their 2018 team from non-existent to one of the better teams in the country. Holtmann has had trouble getting players from Ohio  due to the late start he walked into. But his ability to pull players from around the country is something that should benefit the Buckeye program for years.

Luther Muhammad

Muhammad, 6’4” 185 lbs.,  comes from Jersey City New Jersey Hudson Catholic. He is  a considered a four star prospect and the 89th best player in the country.

Ohio State also picked up Jaedon LeDee and Duane Washington Jr. prior to getting the commitment from Muhammad.

Muhammad’s top five included Virginia, West Virginia, Xavier, Ohio State and St John’s. He visited OSU on September 9th for the Oklahoma game, the same weekend LeDee was in Columbus. Holtmann also made an in-home visit on the 18th of September.

As a junior he averaged 16 points a game, 3 assists, and 2 steals. He also played for NY Rens AAU over the summer. He is the best pure scorer of the 2018 recruits and should develop well under the coaching staff in place at Ohio State.

Chris Holtmann pursued Muhammad at Butler and then offered him when he took over the Ohio State job.

Ohio State Needs Guards

Muhammad can play either guard spot in college, helping the Buckeyes shore up their shortage of guards. He has a wide wingspan and can guard well all positions.

Holtmann has no issue playing a lot of guards and only has CJ Jackson on the roster after this year. Getting 3 or 4 guards in the 2017 class is vital for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State would still love to add Elijah Weaver to the class who also visited campus with Muhammad and LeDee.

JK Dobbins Commits To The Ohio State Buckeyes

JK Dobbins

JK Dobbins, the all-purpose back from La Grange, TX has committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Although this announcement was a surprise to many, Dobbins confirmed the commitment on his Twitter page.

Most people thought that this 5’10 200 pound high school player was going to commit to the Texas Longhorns or either the Oklahoma Sooners. So, when it comes to committing to the Ohio Buckeyes, no one saw this coming. However, Dobbins had already said that he was making an early decision. Also, the head coach Urban Meyer did not offer JK Dobbins until a couple of weeks ago. This is even stranger to say he hasn’t made recent trips to Columbus. His last known trip to Columbus was back in May.

JK Dobbins only lives about 60 miles away from Austin, which is the home of the Texas Longhorns. Thus, many people think that the Longhorns could still steal him away from the Buckeyes, considering that it is still early in the process. The Longhorns want him for a prime running back position. When the 2017 National Signing Day comes along, the Longhorns might have a shot. After all, they are only 60 miles away. It could happen. Think about how things turned out with Jordan Elliott in 2016.

Coach Anthony Johnson may have plans to recruit JK Dobbins during the spring. If this plan does not pan out, the coach will probably go to La Grange when he is evaluating new running backs, and JK Dobbins will be on his list.

Exactly which positions is the coach trying to fill right now? JK Dobbins is ranked the 7th highest high school player in Texas, per Composite. He has received more than 20 offers from various college teams. Within the last three years, he has rushed for 6,000 rushing and receiving yards. In addition, he made more than 37 touchdowns.

JK Dobbins is the only all-purpose back in his 2017 class that has received a formal offer. Toneil Carter from Houston is the only running back that has gotten an offer from the Longhorns.

Devin Smith from Massilon Commits to Ohio State for 2011

The 15th commit of Ohio State’s 2011 recruiting class came with wide receiver Devin Smith from Massilon Washington. The 6’2” 175 lbs prospect is rated the 44th best receiver in the country by Rivals.com. He received a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes after he performed well at their senior camp this past weekend. As a junior last year he scored 15 times and had 989 yards receiving. It was his dream to play for Ohio State, growing up in Ohio and being a fan all his life.

By Steve Patterson

It didn’t take Devin Smith long to commit to the Buckeyes as rumors began circulating early this week that once he got the offer on Monday that he was ready to commit. He had other scholarship offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Penn State, Wisconsin and West Virginia to name a few. At OSU’s camp, fellow Ohio State commit quarterback Braxton Miller and Smith got to know each other and wanted to play together at the next level. Smith took a couple of days to discuss the choice with his family and then called Head Coach Jim Tressel today with his decision.

This is the second wide receiver in the class of 2011 for Ohio State which already includes Vernon Hills IL wide-out Evan Spencer. The Buckeyes are looking for three receivers in a class that could total 22. Phillip Dorsett, Ja’Juan Story and Cleveland Glenville prospect Shan Wynn also hold offers at this time. Smith was able to secure his position now which could lead one of the remaining three eager to join the class before the slots are full.

Smith is also a basketball and track star for the Massilon Tigers. He has impressive long jump and high jump personal bests. He is a tremendous athlete that can utilize his skills on the football field.
