Clash of Titans: Notre Dame vs. Ohio State – A Battle for Supremacy

In the forthcoming showdown between the Fighting Irish and the Ohio State Buckeyes, the stakes are undeniably high.

The mere utterance of “Notre Dame-Ohio State” is enough to captivate a nation eagerly anticipating this spectacle. The Ohio State defense, having displayed formidable prowess in the opening three games, braces itself for the Notre Dame onslaught. ESPN’s College Gameday, recognizing the gravity of this event, will make its fourth appearance to broadcast this epic confrontation.

FightingIrish

Kyle McCord, recently anointed as the starting quarterback, shoulders the responsibility of orchestrating Ohio State’s dynamic offensive plays. He’ll have the privilege of connecting with stellar playmakers like wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. and the electrifying running back, TreVeyon Henderson. However, it’s not just Harrison that the Irish defense must contend with; Emeka Egbuka, a force to be reckoned with, returns to the lineup.

A significant shift from last year’s eventual No.2 draft pick, CJ Stroud, to this year’s rising star, Kyle McCord, marks a pivotal transition in Ohio State’s quarterback landscape. Let’s delve into some of the key challenges that await both squads:

1. Notre Dame’s Defensive Arsenal

While much attention is understandably lavished upon his counterpart, Sam Hartman, for his impressive early-season performance, it would be remiss to overlook the resolute Notre Dame defense.

Last year, Ohio State contended with an imposing Notre Dame defensive front, led by the formidable NFL prospect, Isaiah Foskey. This season, however, Notre Dame’s current defensive line is yet to exhibit the same level of quarterback pressure, potentially providing Ohio State with an opening. Additionally, the current Notre Dame defensive line is yet to assert itself as a dominant force in pressuring quarterbacks.

BuckeyePlayer

2. McCord vs.Hartman: A Quarterback Duel

This year, it’s Kyle McCord, who is stepping into the spotlight in only his fifth career start. Kyle McCord aptly described Notre Dame as “our biggest test,” acknowledging the Herculean task that lies ahead.

Coaching Ascendancy

In a striking parallel, coaches Ryan Day and Marcus Freeman have ascended to two of college football’s most coveted positions through remarkably similar paths.

As the countdown to kick-off commences, anticipation and excitement reach a fever pitch. In this crucible of competition, heroes will emerge, narratives will be rewritten, and a nation will bear witness to a spectacle for the ages.

Ohio State Buckeyes at Michigan Wolverines 2021

OhioStateMichigan2021

Both the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines enter Saturday’s game 10-1 overall looking to place first in their division of the Big Ten conference, win a shot at the Big Ten title, and be selected to play in the CFB Playoff. Ohio State enters the game a 7 point favorite on the road in Ann Arbor. Michigan has had a hard time playing Ohio State over the past two decades including the years the Buckeye’s were coached by Urban Meyer and Jim Tressel.

Both teams have released their hype videos with Jim Harbaugh asking his players “What have you done today to beat Ohio State?”.

The Game

Noon in Ann Arbor and televised on Fox, The Wolverines hope to reverse their fortune against the Ohio State Buckeyes who have had the best of them since 2004. With the way Ohio State beat ranked Michigan State last weekend, many are worried the game on Saturday could also be lopsided. The Buckeyes lost to Oregon the first week of the 2021 season while Michigan fell to Michigan State 37-33 on October 30th.

The teams were not able to play last year because the team from up north had lost too many players to Covid 19 quarantine to play. But now both teams are coming into The Game playing their best football of the year with the Wolverines winning three straight after their loss. Both teams coming into this game with a plan, knowing what they want to do on the field.

When Ohio State has the Ball

CJ Stroud has looked impressive after coming back from a one week break to rest his shoulder. Against Michigan State he threw for 6 touchdowns with 432 yards. Michigan’s defense has been tough to beat this year ranking nationally seventh in points allowed and ninth in total yards allowed per game. Michigan will need to slow down Ohio State to keep the game close. If Ohio State can stop the pass run of Michigan and get the ball to their three 1,000 yard receivers, Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba they should be in good shape.

When Michigan has the Ball

Michigan needs to run the ball, not become one dimensional, and not let Ohio State get a lead where Michigan needs to pass every down. If Michigan gets behind, then Ohio State’s defensive line can come after the quarterback and we could see a similar game to last week against the Spartans. Cade McNamara is the key for Michigan, if he can have a good game and mix up the attack, the Wolverines can stay in the game.

Final Outcome

Ohio State’s offensive is too productive to not cover the spread and should win this game by over 7 points. The Buckeye’s have been virtually error free and their defensive turned the corner early, become just as good as most of the teams in the country. Michigan will have to find another bowl to play in after the missing the college football playoff once again.

Number 4 Ohio State vs Number 7 Michigan State 2021

OhioStateVsMichiganState2021

Ohio State is playing host to Michigan State in a game that could decide the East Division title.

When Mel Tucker was hired as Michigan State’s coach, he promised his players that they would compete for titles. The Spartans are already pounding on the door for the second-year coach. The 2021 team is strong enough already to finish in the top 3 of the Big Ten East, if not the top 2.

How to watch?

Ohio Stadium 12:00pm November 20th on ABC

The Spartans are a significant underdog in Saturday’s game against No. 4 Ohio State (9-1, 7-0) in Columbus, where 100,000 plus supporters will make the visitors’ upset dream even more difficult.

Michigan State hasn’t beaten Ohio State since 2015, a 5-year drought that will extend another year with a defeat Saturday in Columbus.

Buckeyes Last Week

Had the Purdue Boilermakers 59-31 at home. Quite a performance against a team that came in looking like a strong defensive team with some real ability on offense.

Michigan State Last Week

Played the Maryland Terrapins and won 40-21 at home.

When Ohio State has the Ball

There might be a lot of scores recorded with two powerful offenses on the field and the Spartans’ poor pass defense.

As we saw in the Spring Game, Ohio State vs Michigan State 2021 might be one of the best games of 2021.

The Ohio State Buckeyes have a couple of capable running backs on their roster. TreVeyon Henderson has been splitting time with fellow freshman Miyan Williams, who has a 7.34 yards-per-carry average that ranks second in the FBS.

Henderson was a high school standout in Hopewell Virginia, where he rushed for 2,736 yards and 50 touchdowns in his final three seasons. He visited Michigan, Clemson, Tennessee, and Penn State before committing to Ohio State.

When Michigan State has the Ball

Kenneth Walker III of Michigan State leads major college football with 1,473 yards rushing. Only Marshall running back Rasheen Ali has more touchdowns than the Wake Forest transfer. Had a 143-yard performance in their recent Saturday win against Maryland.

Final Outcome

This is a massive game. The winner advances to the Big Ten East championship game and the College Football Playoff.
The team to lose will likely be left out of the college championship playoff.

“We’ll have to play our best game to have any kind of chance in this game, but that goes for every week in the Big Ten. If you’re not ready to come in with your A game, you’re going to get beat, so we have to make sure we do everything in our power to make sure that doesn’t happen.” said Michigan State linebacker Noah Harvey.

Number Five Ohio State v Number 20 Penn State

OhioStatevsPennState

Number five Ohio State will host number 20 Penn State at Ohio Stadium on Saturday night. The Buckeyes haven’t lost a top-25 game at home since 2012 and haven’t lost a home game to Penn State since 2000. The Buckeyes haven’t won four straight games against the Nittany Lions since 1988-91 and haven’t beaten them in back-to-back seasons since 1992-93. Ohio State has won nine of its last 10 games against Penn State and is 24-2 against the Nittany Lions since Urban Meyer became the Buckeye coach in 2012.

Penn State Lost to Illinois Last Week

Penn State’s puzzling loss to Illinois, led by Bret Bielema, knocks them to No. 20, and this game has gone from headliner to “eh” across the American college football scene.

SportsLine’s model just revealed its CFB picks and predictions for Penn State.

The model has now zeroed in on Penn State vs. Ohio State and has just released its college football picks and forecasts. According to SportsLine’s model, the game will fall under the point total, with the teams combining for 54 points. Penn State vs. Ohio State: Ohio State -18.5 points.

Ohio State vs Penn State: Storylines

Ohio State has won four games in a row versus Penn State. The Buckeyes are rated fifth in the country, while Penn State is still mourning from last year’s setback. Ryan Day believes the team has no reason to dismiss the Nittany Lions. Ohio hopes to win another game against Penn State and advance to a third consecutive College Football Playoff berth with a home victory. It will air on ABC Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Rob Oller Prediction

“Scarlet the Shoe” is Ohio State’s reaction to Penn State’s traditional Whiteout, and it will be the closest the Buckeyes will get to being on high alert. There’s nothing to be upset about when your team’s offense is first in the country in scoring (49.3) and 18th in points allowed (18.57).

Joey Kaufman Prediction

This will not be the dance of previous weeks, but expect OSU to continue to win comfortably as its powerful offense keeps putting up numbers in a hurry.

Bill Rabinowitz Prediction

This game appears to be lot different than it first looked to be when quarterback Sean Clifford was not injured. Penn State needs the quarterback to be 100 percent healthy in order for the Nittany Lions to have a chance in this one.

Ohio State vs Penn State: Match Information

This year, Penn State has a strong team. They have a lot of talent on the field and are well-coached. I like both of their offensive and defensive coaches, and their defense can be quite good at times. But I think they’re in for a rude awakening when they face Ohio State this weekend.

Ohio State is now playing at a level unrivaled by most teams in the country. While Penn State has consistently been a thorn in Ohio State’s side, I believe the distance between these two programs has expanded in recent years. This year, Penn State will struggle to keep up with Ohio State’s offensive.

No Five Ohio State Buckeyes at Indiana Hoosiers

OhioStateIndiana

Ohio State (5-1) goes to Bloomington Indiana to face the 2-4 Hoosiers Saturday night at 7:30pm in Memorial Stadium (ABC).
This is a Big Ten East divisional battle where a struggling Hoosier team will try to spread out Ohio State. Indiana played more games in 2020 and should have been in the conference title game but Ohio State was given the honor after only 5 games, something that should still upset the Hoosiers.

Ohio State 2021 Season

Ohio State fell to Oregon to start the 2021 season but has now won four in a row. QB CJ Stroud returned after the Akron game to lead the Buckeyes in a strong fashion, out scoring teams 218-57 over four games. Ohio State now has the most yards per game in the country and their defense has become stable since the shaky beginning.

TreVeyon Henderson has everyone excited about the young running backs at Ohio State. With 9 touchdowns and 612 yards, Henderson has also been a part of the passing game with 154 yards and a couple more touchdowns. His explosive play often turns games around when Ohio State is looking to switch the momentum. Look for Henderson to do well against the Hoosiers on Saturday.

Disappointing Indiana Season

Indiana is coming off a Michigan State lose, 20-15. The team went 6-2 in 2020 but has returned to being an unimpressive football program in 2021. The team returned quarterback Michael Penix Jr and many of their defensive stars. Penix Jr has been injured while backup Jack Tuttle has lead the team to three conference loses against Iowa, Penn State and Michigan State.

Ohio State is given 19.5 points in betting odds. They hope to not look past Indiana to a big match next weekend with Penn State. They know how Indiana has given them fits in the past and are looking to play four solid quarters of football on the road at night Saturday.

Ohio State Buckeyes vs Maryland Terrapins 2021

OhioStatevsMaryland2021

No 7 Ohio State (4-1) returns back to the Horseshoe on Saturday in Columbus for Homecoming against the Maryland Terrapins (4-1). With the Buckeyes having a bye week, the squad will be looking to perform well and prove that their difficult start to the season is over.

In recent history, Ohio State is 5-1 all-time against Maryland, besting the Terps by a combined score of 110-48. Everyone in Ohio will be watching the Ohio State Buckeyes vs Maryland Terrapins this weekend.

Ohio State v Rutgers Last Week

Ohio State came out strong last week with running back TreVeyon Henderson scoring on their second play with a 44 yard run. They continued to score with Chris Olave (2), Garrett Wilson, Jeremy Ruckert, and Mitch Rossi all scoring. The finished the first half up by 39 points.

Ohio State Offensive Weapons

With 555 yards per game this year, Ohio State is averaging more than 8 and a half yards per play, making it difficult for opposition teams to match.

Garrett Wilson, who averages 17.8 yards per reception, Chris Olave, who averages more than 16 yards per catch, and true freshman TreVeyon Henderson, who averages nearly 10 yards per run, are the major playmakers.

Quarterback CJ Stroud

CJ Stroud took the Akron game off while Kyle McCord came in and showed everyone how good he could be. But Stroud’s return to play with a rested shoulder was as impressive and against tougher competition. Five touchdowns and 330 yards with a Freshman of the Week award was what he was able to earn.

Most impressive was his 14.3 yards per attempt, something most quarterbacks can’t do against a defense as good as Rutgers.

Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson

Olave has been a little quite of recent until the game last Saturday when he put up 119 yards and 2 touchdowns. Wilson has been more consistent and is leading the team with 462 yards total and 4 touchdowns.

With the kind of potential these two possess, don’t be surprised if Olave sets a new record as the top receiver of the year.

Matt Barnes Calling the Defense

Matt Barnes began calling the defense a couple of weeks ago and the difference has been noticeable. He was an assistant at Maryland in 2018 so he has a lot of knowledge about the program coming to Ohio this week. A number of young players have stepped up and the team is not allowing rushing touchdowns while making interceptions every time out.

They have been taking it to the house and the defense gets the credit. Their big pass rushing lineman is Haskell Garrett who has 3 sacks on the season and is always looking for one more.

Ronnie Hickman and Denzel Burke

Ronnie Hickman blow up the Rutgers offense in his home state last weekend with 11 tackles, leading the team. Freshman Denzel Burke got his first interception and ran it back to buffer the Buckeyes lead to 14 points early in the game. With Ohio State losing defensive backs to the NFL every year, the club needs young players to step in and make an immediate impact.

Mike Locksley and Maryland

Maryland is off to a 4-1 start this season and was looking good against Iowa last week until the Hawkeyes scored 31 points in a row in the second quarter. Head Coach Mike Locksley is in his third season with the Terrapins and has had a difficult background with many defeats to overcome.

He is looking to Maryland to do what they did under Ralph Friedgen, win games, build momentum, and produce a bowl game.

Quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa

Taulia Tagovailoa was having a great season prior to the Iowa game and was considered for a nomination to Heisman Trophy. He is leading the Big Ten in completion percentage and has put up a number of 300 yards games. The Dontay Demus Jr. season ending knee injurie could limit his production going forward. They will look to Rakim Jarrett to take his place as the go-to receiver.

Maryland Pass Rush with Sam Okuayinonu and Durrell Nchami

Defensively, Maryland has the fourth best pass rush in the conference. They have tallied 14 sacks in five games. Sam Okuayinonu (5 sacks) and Darrell Nchami (3 sacks) are the lineman causing all the havoc for quarterbacks facing them.

How the Game will Go

Ohio State will have to perform well against their best competition in three weeks. The young defensive backs will be tested to see if they have improved since the Oregon game. CJ Stroud gets to show that his dominance is consistent and that he can play on only one week of rest. Overall the game should be controlled by the Buckeyes and a good margin of victory is expected. They are a 21 point favorite for this matchup.

2021 Ohio State Football: The Toughest (Maryland Trailer)

Ohio State Football at Rutgers Saturday

RyanDayGregSchiano

The Ohio State Football Buckeye game against the Scarlet Knights this weekend will air on the Big Ten Network at 3:30pm. Ohio State beat Akron last weekend in a game they were supposed to win big, 59-7. Subsequently, they saw a one place drop in the college football rankings. This weekend they have their second Big Ten game of the season against the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers. They are on the road again with a chance to impress against a little tougher competition.

Ohio State Football 2021

CJ Stroud returns as the starting quarterback while Kyle McCord filled in last week performing as well as everyone thought he would. Outside of those two, there is still a lot of question marks for this unit. This week should tell a lot as they’ll be on the road.

Rutgers Welcoming the Buckeyes

Greg Schiano has the Rutgers football team turned around and looking for a big day at home on Saturday. Rutgers lost against the Michigan Wolverines (20-13) last week and comes into this one a 15.5 point underdog. Rutgers feels its more of an even matchup than those coming from Columbus.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights have a ton of talent in their offense this season. Quarterback Noah Vedral leads a very talented group of receivers. But Ohio State Football has shown time and again that it is capable of making game and season adjustments to come out on top.

The Buckeyes have a solid defense and a really talented offense. Now the stage is set for Rutgers to make a big statement.

How This Game Could Go

Rutgers defensive is much improved, but their defensive backfield is suspect. Ohio State should control the line of scrimmage when Rutgers has the ball, making it hard for them to run. Rutgers Quarterback Noah Vedral has been adequate but will need to be great to pull off an upside against OSU. This is the kind of game Buckeye tailback TreVoyon Henderson can run for over 200 yards and score a couple of times. The Ohio State offensive line is starting to look good which would end this game early if the Buckeyes control both lines of scrimmage.

The Pick Is Ohio State! As the Big Ten season progresses through its non-conference and now conference schedules, the top teams will rise to the top of the standings. When the Buckeyes reach the summit, they will be an unstoppable force. The OSU Buckeyes will win the Big Ten Championship.

2021 Ohio State Football: The Next Round (Rutgers Trailer)

Ohio State Buckeyes v Akron Zips Week

KyleMcCord

Ohio State hosts Akron this Saturday at 7:40 p.m. in Ohio Stadium, as the Buckeyes look to improve their defensive woes.

Akron could be the ideal opponent at the ideal time. The Zips are 1-2, with their lone victory coming against Bryant last week, which they won 35-14. Akron was defeated by Auburn 60-10 and Temple 45-24. Some consider Akron to be the worst team in Division 1 football.

CJ Stroud Not To Play

Ohio State Buckeye quarterback C.J. Stroud will not be the starting QB on Saturday against Akron, coach Ryan Day told fans on his weekly radio show today. Some feel this could open the door for Jack Miller or Kyle McCord to take over the program. But the team is saying that nothing will change after this week and Stroud will continue to be the starter.

According to Day, Stroud is nursing a shoulder injury, and the coaching staff felt that a week of rest would benefit the redshirt freshman as the Big Ten conference schedule approaches. Stroud was suffering from the same injury prior to the Tulsa game a week ago.

LB Dallas Gant Enters the Transfer Portal

Dallas Gant, an Ohio State reserve linebacker, has entered the NCAA transfer portal and has left the team.

Gant, a senior who has played in all three games this season and 38 overall in his Ohio State career, entered his name into the portal on Tuesday. He has a total of 53 tackles in his career, including two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and 3.5 tackles for loss. He is hoping to be picked up and be eligible for next season. He would have 2 years of college football remaining thanks to the new Covid 19 eligibility rules.

Gant, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 232 pounds, made the most of his contributions during the 2019 season.

RB TreVeyon Henderson Signs Deal with Arbys

TreVeyon Henderson had a breakout performance in Ohio State’s win over Tulsa. He now has a new Name, Image, and Likeness deal.

The freshman is joining Arby’s as it launches a new campaign called Arby’s RBs. The national fast-food chain will sponsor the first 200 running backs who sign up and successfully post about the deal on Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #TonightImGettingArbys. He will reportedly receive $500 and a some Arby’s swag.

Ohio State Falls in AP Poll after Tulsa

Ohio State fell one spot to No. 10 in the most recent Associated Press college football poll, which was released on Sunday.
On Saturday, the Buckeyes defeated Tulsa 41-20. TreVeyon Henderson, a freshman running back, set a freshman rushing record with 277 yards in the game.

Larry Johnson Looking for Pass Rush

Head Coach Day said the offensive line needs to do a better job of making quarterbacks feel uncomfortable in the pocket, and given that Ohio State has only 4 sacks through 3 games (22 teams in the country have fewer) it’s simple to see.

Larry Johnson, the defensive line coach, cannot sleep when his team isn’t able get pressure on the quarterback. So he is considering changing personnel and putting the right people on the field to get the job done this coming weekend.

Young Defenders Ready to Play

Buckeye football is searching for answers on defense, which might imply enlisting fresh players who are ready to contribute.

After last Tuesday’s practice, defensive tackle Tyleik Williams, linebacker Palaie Gaoteote IV, and defensive back Andre Turrentine all had the black stripes on their helmets removed. The three now have the potential to take on larger roles as the season progresses.

No 3 Ohio State v No 11 Oregon

Saturday September 11th 2021 at Noon on FOX

Oregon Ducks (1-0) @ Ohio State Buckeyes (1-0)

CJStroud

Oregon Against Fresno State

Oregon, a Pac 12 top contender, began the season going up against Fresno State, coming out on top 31-24. They were evenly balanced with 172 yards passing and 186 yards rushing. Running back CJ Verdell ran 18 times for 74 yards and a touchdown. Receiver Johnny Johnson III caught 3 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown. They didn’t allow Fresno State to run much, only 76 yards. But the Bulldogs got them for 298 yards through the air.

Ohio State Last Weekend

Being an Ohio State fan, you know the Buckeyes beat Big Ten in conference Minnesota 45-31 last Thursday. Quarterback CJ Stroud passed for 294 yards and 4 touchdowns. Miyan Williams ran 9 times for 125 yards and a touchdown. While Chris Olave was in good form with 4 receptions for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Ohio State is considered a 14.5 favorite to win in the Horseshoe in this out of conference important contest.

How Oregon Can Compete

Oregon might try to control the clock by running the ball a lot like Minnesota did, but Ohio State can score quickly. Quarterback Anthony Brown could do a decent job of moving the ball on the ground. And the Ducks have a better defense than the Golden Gophers with Kayvon Thibodeaux on the edge, but not enough to win this one.

Stroud was strong going to his left in his first collegiate game. When he couldn’t through left, he struggled a little bit. Oregon can test him this weekend to see if he’s made any adjustments.
